Set up a temporary kitchen
A table or counter in another room with a microwave, a small fridge, a coffee maker and paper goods covers most weeks. Plan simple meals for the days the sink is out of service.
Expect dust and noise
Demolition is the dustiest phase. Ask how work areas will be sealed and floors protected, move valuables out of the kitchen and neighboring rooms, and plan for noisy hours if you work from home.
Pets and kids
Tools, open walls and delivery traffic are hazards. Ask the crew about gate and door practices, and arrange for pets to be elsewhere on the loudest days.
Know the shut-off days
Ask when water, power or gas will be off so you can plan around them.
Agree on communication
Ask who your point of contact is, how you will get updates, and how decisions and changes will be approved in writing.
Some projects are easier with a short move-out
Full gut renovations that touch several rooms can be difficult to live through. We will tell you honestly during the walkthrough.
